Thanks for this. Would it be possible to have some estimated bad debt rates for the new markets?

Many thanks

Hello,

Please find the latest bad debt report. We did some corrections in this report.

1)The bad debt report is separated into ‘Active’ products and ‘Inactive’ products.
  - As you know, Zopa adds 24 and 48 terms in May. To separate the new products with old 24 and 48 terms, we move the old product into ‘Inactive’ part and add new stuff in ‘Active’ sector.

2)Removed the closed market.
  - Once the market is fully paid or expired ( eg, 6 months product) then we will get rid of those products so as to keep the sheet tidy.
  - So, in the work sheet, only listing and some old products left. Some of them will be removed soon as well.

3)The headings have been updated.
  - We did update the 36 and 60 months market in May so the file you download for May is correct, except the headings

Hope you all will be happy for the new file

Many thanks for the update.  Sorry to be a pain but can I ask for the older markets 6 month, 12 month, etc. to be re-added, as currently this shows that Zopa has only made £216million of loans, but the real number is higher due to the omitted markets.

Any chance of publishing the data on the outstanding loans please ?

Hello easteregg,

Thank you for this comment. First of all, the total value of loans includes the omitted markets, same with the % Defaults + Arrears (assumes 50% of current arrears are recovered) and % Defaults so you don't have to worry that the total disbursal is underestimated.

Also, the reason that we want to get rid of the old and expired products are, as we explained,1) keeping the file tidy or it can be a huge file 2) only active products are more relevant with our lenders since it helps lenders to select the markets and terms.

For the last request, we still don't think this belongs in the bad debt report but we are appreciated this suggestion.

Hello,

I think the rates that you are looking for are Current Expected Lifetime Bad Debt Rate and Current Expected Annual Bad Debt Rate ( right??) , which are in the B and C column of this sheet. The 'Active' part includes our new markets.

Many thank for the reply.  You are correct the totals include the omitted markets, but the total default rate for markets has been removed, and replaced with the total for active markets.  I don't mind if this is a simple one liner for inactive markets, but I would really appreciate if you could put this data back for markets.  I need this to compare historical bad debts and I would exclude listings as there was no published data for this.

I also note that while you have kept the bad debt estimates for the 24 month markets the same as the historical 24 month markets, the bad debt estimates for the 48 month markets have been raised to that of the 60 month markets.  Is that what you intended to do ?

I honestly don't mind where you publish the data on outstanding loans, but can I ask that you publish this somewhere please ?  I'm happy to discuss this via email if this is easier as I can show examples.

There has to be a mistake there somewhere - the annualised and the lifetime bad debt rates are BOTH the same for 48 and 60 month - they can't both be the same because "lifetime" is a different length.

Sorry if I missed it, I was referring to column H, but now atleast there are expected rates for all but A* and C, I assume that the loans in these were so recent that the expected bad debt was 0%. I look forward to your answer to Easteregg's subsidiary question as I cannot see how both the lifetime and annual bad debts can be the same for the 48 & 60 month markets.

Thanks

I also look forward to the answer, as the current situation is in conflict with Zopa's own explanation of "Understanding how Zopa risk management works", particularly the section most of the way down that page entitled "Impact of bad debt on Lender returns".  Within that section it says...

As an example, ultimate bad debt of 2% yields the following Annual Interest Rate Impact:

Term of the loan Ultimate bad debt Annual interest rate impact
36 months 2.00% 1.289%
60 months 2.00% 0.782%
... so it  seems pretty clear that if the ultimate bad debt is the same in two markets of different terms then the annual interest rate impact cannot also be the same.

A great spot! Somewhere through the launch of the new terms, the 48 month lifetime bad debt figures have not been updated correctly on the bad debt file - apologies if this has caused concern.

This file will be updated this afternoon.

much of the recent material has ended up being more in the nature of the type of discussion that belongs in the lender forum rather than under the heading of general information.  I wonder whether one of you kind moderators   might consider fashioning it into a separate thread? - either that or delete this post.  :P

Thanks for the updated/corrected spreadsheet.  A couple of points, though...

1. When I try to open it, Excel asks me if I want to update it from another spreadsheet it contains links to.  The spreadsheet it wants to link with is "20120716 Charts for pdf with mixed terms.xlsx" and, of course, Excel can't find any such spreadsheet on my PC.  Should that link have been removed before it was made available?

2. The download links to the previous version of the spreadsheet shown in postings 299, 300 and 301, are still live, so there's a chance someone could download the old version.  Can someone therefore either de-activate those links or add a note to the effect that the spreadsheet has been superseded by the later one?

Could only see a couple of posts - have split them off here...

Thanks for making the amended file available.

Thanks also to whomever removed most of the links to the previous versions of this file.  Three remain, however, in posts 299, 300, and 311.  (The first two point to the original file, and the last one points to the first revision of the file.)
