Dow Jones Index fell another 678.91 points (7.33%) today and now stands at 8579.19 it's lowest level since August 2003.

A year ago exactly, the Dow closed at a record high above 14,000 points.

This does go to show how things can turn around when things go badly. With the stock market you can have infinate gain but a 100% loss. On Zopa you can only have 20% gain but 100% loss.

Surely its a mere 90% maximum possible loss on Zopa.

EDIT: Well, unless Zopa and CRS go down the pan and then its 100% loss. Out of interest is it guaranteed that defaulted loans are brought for at least 10% of outstanding, or just the current arrangement and thus could potentially change?

Well, someone could always ask whether there was any noticeable trend in late payment and default rates in loans granted by Zopa US in recent quarters.

Sorry I wasn't suggesting Zopa members would lose money, I was comparing Zopa and the stock market. As I stated before I believe now is Zopa's time to shine in the UK. I'm just sorry for my American cousins.

The main concern surely has to be that what happens in America normally ends up over here. It's almost inevitable.

What is happening to UK house prices now is where America was about two years ago, and we all know what happened next!

OTOH, I'm not aware of any UK company whose business model involves getting people with 1 year fixed rate investments to altruistically donate some of their interest to someone with a loan.

This is also how I understood how the US version worked.

Is it?

We avoided the need for such an election.

Well, both the US and the UK have a system where you don't get to vote for the President/Prime Minister, so we have that much in common. Don't even get to vote for their successor in either country - though at least in the US it's usually death in office or imminent impeachment that causes the President to depart, not political backstabbing in advance of an election.

Is this a trailer, or are we supposed to be all fired up now to go searching for that info ourselves?

Check the USA section of this site.

I understand that all you guys are fired up over Zopa as we were for Prosper.com.

Just don't make the mistake like we did in thinking the site operators would never lie to you.

Believe me,that they will say or do anything in hopes if making their stock have value one of these days.
